18thCenturyPress - New Book

We, that is www.18thcenturypress.com, have secured the rights to re-print Niemeyer/Ortenburg’s "The Hanoverian Army during the Seven Years War".

This is an exceptional book with colour illustrations of all the infantry regiments, artillery, light troops and cavalry regiments that made up the Hanoverian army of the SYW. Equally useful is the full English text and descriptions of the army’s organization.

At the moment the issues relate to both cost per copy and numbers to print. What I am requesting now is a duplication of the work we did before the Savory re-print; that is to collect emails from interested parties so that I can have an idea of numbers. I cannot give any idea at the moment about cost but I will try to keep this as low as possible while retaining the quality of the original.

If you are interested in buying a copy, please email me at info@18thcenturypress.com

Thanks

Nigel

Savory Sales

I’m back from my holiday in the USA (New York, DC and Maryland) fully refreshed and ready for those slings, arrows and compliments you may, or may not, wish to throw in my direction.

We have taken note of various comments from people about packaging of 'His Britannic Majesty’s Army in the Seven Years War' (special new boxes have been ordered for future postings) and in the meantime copies will be dispatched in double-protection Jiffy bags. We also have some spare dust-jackets so please email me if yours was torn or damaged.

Savory sales started well and to those that have purchased already – a big ‘thank you’. That said, initial interest in the venture suggested a high level of probable sales, which, alas, is still some way off.

If you are one of those people who emailed me expressing an interest in the book and have not yet committed to purchasing, would you please be good enough to drop me an email? The sole purpose of this enterprise was, from my point of view, to make an important and invaluable reference source more widely available; it was never an exercise in making profit and we are some way off covering our costs.

I admit to a modest pride regarding this re-printing of Savory – a view echoed by several purchasers already. Said one recipient: "....the book arrived, although it was not quite what I was expecting. It’s better! When I read that it was a facsimile of the original work, I expected a softback with scanned material from an original copy. My delight, however, at finding myself in possession of a ‘proper’ book just cannot be described."

So, if you have definitely made your mind up to acquire a copy, please do it now; if you’re still undecided, this is a limited print run so time is of the essence, and if you simply cannot make up your mind, remember that it may be many years before this definitive reference book – if ever – sees the light of day again.

To purchase, go to www.18thcenturypress.com or click on the link on the right hand side of this blog. Thanks.

Savory is available 12th June 2009

If you expressed an interest in buying this book you will probably have received an email from me by now telling you that the book will be available to purchase on 12th June 2009. If you have received this email, please accept my apologies as I'm going to repeat many of the details again.

The book is available to order now from www.18thcenturypress.com or click on the link on the right of this page. Once there you can click on the Savory button which will open a new page which has three postage options - UK, Europe and rest of the World. Once selected this should take you to Paypal where you will be able to pay.
I'm a bit of a computer nerd so I like simple instructions and I have made them as user-friendly as possible. Please note that if you want to purchase more than a single copy you should email me to see if a postage discount might apply. Frankly
the book is heavy and I can't see us getting much of a discount for more than one book.

As mentioned in my email, I am away from 15th June to 8th July so during that period if you have any queries please contact my business parter (and London 'office')
terry.pritchard@stmaryabbotschurch.org

Lastly, I’d like to thank you for your patience as this has been a somewhat long and drawn out ordeal for all concerned. Nonetheless, we have succeeded and I hope that you enjoy the results.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I am in negotiations at the moment on the next reprint which will have a SYW theme and which I think is even rarer than the Savory book.

HIS MAJESTY'S BRITTANIC ARMY IN GERMANY DURING THE SEVEN YEARS WAR

Just to update interested parties on the re-print of ‘HIS MAJESTY'S BRITTANIC
ARMY IN GERMANY DURING THE SEVEN YEARS WAR’ by Sir Reginald Savory,
the situation is that we have secured the right to publish and have had one quote from a UK publisher that would put the book out for sale at £60 plus p/p. We are currently trying to get other quotes in an attempt, if at all possible, to bring the cost down to closer to the £50 I mentioned in my last posting on the subject. Although the spec remains largely the same as the 1980 re-print we are adding extra colour maps to the back of the book as well as a dustcover.

We are going ahead and we hope to be able to publish in the Spring or early summer of this year.

HIS MAJESTY'S BRITTANIC ARMY IN GERMANY DURING THE SEVEN YEARS WAR by Sir Reginald Savory

As many of you may know, this book (HIS MAJESTY'S BRITTANIC ARMY IN GERMANY DURING THE SEVEN YEARS WAR by Sir Reginald Savory) is the definitive source in English for the Western theatre of the Seven Years War.

A company called Athena Press printed 500 copies quite a few years ago when I bought my copy (£50 I think I paid) and since then the price has mounted. Please see this link to Abe Books:

http://www.abebooks.com:80/servlet/SearchResults?an=savory&sts=t&tn=his+britannic+majesty%27s+army+in+germany&x=0&y=0

I am negotiating with the copyright holder the possibility of another print run of about 250-500 numbered copies. The price is likely to be about £50 and the quality hardback is likely to be in a similar format to the ones published by Athena Press.

At this early stage I'm trying to get an idea of demand. If you are interested (and there is no commitment at this stage) could you please drop me an email at
nigbil@free.fr

These are hard economic times and before I embark on such an expensive project I'd need to have a very good idea of the level of interest.

Thanks,
Nigel
