The second, and last, batch of chariots. They were fun to assemble and paint and are lovely models.

28mm Punic War: Triarii of 4th Legio Niger Aper (Black Boar)
So, with the exception of velites, that concludes this first of two Roman Legios for the 2nd Carthaginian war.

28mm Celtic chariots 1
The first batch of chariots for the Celtic army from Victrix. These are quite complicated to assemble so here are my tips.
assemble and paint the chariot.
assemble and paint the horses
assemble and paint the crew (only the chaps steering horses)
base the horses/chariots.
Attach reins to steering guys and paint.
Insert/glue reins into horse harness and glue man to chariot base. (delicate)
Paint forward reins on sprue. Remove and glue to harness and horse.(delicate)
You should follow Victrix instructions!

28mm Punic War: Principes of 4th Legio Niger Aper (Black Boar)
This follows on from the Hastati I showed you in July. Here is the second line of Principes, sporting the same LBMS yellow shields but with red plumes. On the subject of LBMS transfers I wanted to say a big 'thank you' to Steve Hales for replacing some of the transfers which deteriorated due to age. It's not a common problem, I hear, but it does occasionally happen with transfer sheets that have been lurking in the back of a drawer.
Next up the Triarii. I have not yet decided the shield colour of the next Legion (2nd Legio) but it will probably be red.

28mm Punic War: Carthaginian elephant
This is one of the two elephants from the Victrix set with transfers from LBMS. Actually you can add shields and javelin quivers but the former cover up parts of the design so I have left them off for the moment.

28mm Punic Wars Carthaginian Veterans and Roman Hastati.
I'm showing today two units. One, which you have previously seen in January 2022, but which I have rebased on 80mm x 50mm, is a three-based Carthaginian unit of veterans.
The other unit is 4 bases of Hastati in the first Roman legion I will do – all with these yellow shields from LBMS.
Figures are all Victrix and bases are from Charlie Foxtrot.

28mm SYW French: IR73 Haynault
These are the last two battalions of my 23 battalion strong Franco-Palatine force. The lovely flags are from Dave Morfitt at his 'Not by Appointment' blog. In terms of cavalry I will need about 25 squadrons and I have finished eight so some way to go. The artillery are largely finished.
28mm Napoleonic Russians: Tchernigovsk and Staroskol Regiments
A new brigade of Russians for my Napoleonic armies. They were not actually brigaded together but I paint Russians purely on the appeal of the flags. The next brigade will be Kazan and Mouromsk.

28mm Gallic Fanatics
Fanatical 'warriors' I guess. Or perhaps fanatical nudists or naturists. I would have thought they would feel very physically vulnerable not to mention subject to ridicule from their battlefield enemies. Perhaps it's those two elements that make them 'fanatical'.

28mm Ancient Celts/Gauls: Warrior Warband 14
More warriors using bases from Charlie Foxtrot, figures from Victrix and transfers from LBMS. This is the last of the warrior sprues.

Warlord Games Epic Scale ACW: Georgia Brigade
Brigadier Paul Jones Semmes and his Georgia brigade consisting of the 10th, 50th, 51st and 53rd Georgia. That's 10 bases of Epic Scale figures. In another picture I show the only Union battalion I have finished and I think almost all of my Union battalions will be like these three bases. I am enjoying painting these very much and am going to finish of a Rebel battery today.

10mm SYW Painted and unpainted figures
I started off this project but I cannot continue it. I am selling painted and unpainted Prussians and Austrians. There is a painted Prussian IR1 regiment (with 5 flags per battalion x 2 battalions), three squadrons of Cuirassiers, one squadron of Dragoons and two squadrons of hussars. The Austrians have two battalions of painted Hungarians, based 4 deep. In assorted bags I have unpainted Fusiliers for the Prussians. The infantry are all GrandScale from OG. The cavalry are mostly from Pendraken and there a number of bags of unpainted figures (see the pictures please).
I'm looking for 100 euros for the whole lot plus postage which I will cap at 20 euros within Europe and 30 euros to the rest of the world. Please see my facebook page for 18thcenturypress.com and look in the shop or contact me here.

Warlord Games Epic Scale ACW: 51st and 53rd Georgia
I finally got round to buying a box of these 12mm plastics. Many other people have done reviews on You Tube and other places and most have been very positive and I must agree – they are great little figures, full of character. The contents of the sprues aim for large battalions of five bases of 20 figures each but I don't like that because many units in the ACW were tiny, often two to three hundred men (particularly on the Confederate side) and so I'd rather do an OOB that has varied unit sizes than field all 'huge' units. I think that units can consist of two bases (Small), three bases (Normal) and four bases (Large) and that suits me and will work with Black Powder. If a base equals about 150 men that makes regiments of 300, 450 and 600 which will allow me to get close to actual strengths at various battles. I doubt I will ever do Warlord Games's suggestion of 5 bases but that would equal a unit of 750 men. So here we have two small Georgia regiments and the other two of the brigade, which I will do soon, will each be 'normal' or three bases.
The other issue is that I like just one flag for the Confederates and the flag to be as close to the centre of the unit as is possible. I found that the strips can easily be cut with sharp plastic cutters and so the single command strip (with its two flagbearers) can cover the command element for two Confederate battalions, as shown in the pictures here.
The only slight bugbear I have is that I'm not keen on the horses I have seen so far. But as the infantry are so lovely (and fun to paint) I think I can probably live with that as there will be so few cavalry in my OOB.
Final comment – I painted these two regiments, totalling 80 figures, in one day. They work with the “three foot rule” which means they look good viewed at three feet away and are not painted to be scrutinized under a microscope!

40mm Austrian/Grenz Converged Grenadier battalion
This is the second of my converged Grenadier battalions. It consists of two companies from IR18 Marschall (Red facings), two companies of IR38 de Ligne (Pink facings), one company of Grenz grenadiers from Karlstadter-Lykaner (Red uniform), and one company of Grenz grenadiers from Karstadter-Szluiner (Light blue uniform). That's quite a colourful bunch!

40mm Austrian Hungarian Converged Grenadier battalion
This is the third of my converged Grenadier battalions serving in my Austrian army. It consists of 2 companies from three regiments: 2 from IR31 Haller (light blue facings), 2 from IR37 Joseph Esterhazy (red facings) and 2 from IR51 Gyulay (blue facings). The parent regiments serve in my Hungarian brigade except for Gyulay.
Sash & Saber figures except for the officer who is from Front Rank.

28mm SYW French: IR8. Bourbonnais, four battalions
This was a very senior regiment in the French army and counted as "Petits Vieux". It participated in many SYW battles although it was fortunate not to be at Minden. I have painted this regiment because I like the colour combination of the ordonnance flags as well as the elegant absence of any facing colour. This almost concludes the French infantry – all that remains is the two battlion regiment of IR73 Haynault.
The figures are all from Black Hussar except for three Foundry drummers. The dead and wounded are also very nice sculpts from Black Hussar.
