28mm ECW Royalist: Foot regiment of Henry Tillier.

This is the third foot regiment of my first Royalist battalia, the front line, and the only one I know of with it's own Facebook page. Apparently green was a colour associated with this regiment and the gyronny system was used on it's flags. Beyond that, the rest is my conjecture. Figures by 1st corps and flags from Flags of War. All that is left to do for this brigade is a general and two light guns.

28mm ECW Royalist: Foot regiment of Sir Gilbert Talbot

Back in May 2024 I showed you the first of the foot regiments and that was the 'blue' regiment of John Belasyse. Here is the second and it is the yellow regiment of Sir Gilbert Talbot. I really like these 1st Corps figures, not just because 'unit deals' are well priced. The third unit of this battalia will be Henry Tillier's and that will follow soon.

I have always got to paint both sides (one of the problems of living in rural France) so I will follow my normal rule of 12/12 or about 12 units for each side to finish the armies. Flags are from Flags of War.

28mm FPW 1870:1st French Brigade

Six battalions of the 1st French brigade under General de Brigade Montmarie.16th Chasseur regiment, three battalions of the 50th ligne and two battalions of the 74th.

That's about half of the infantry I have planned.

28mm FPW 1870: 3e Regiment de Tirailleurs Algerians,1st and 3rd BTNs

I finally finished the second battalion of this Turcos regiment and so I show both together. I assume the second battalion is elsewhere and that the heavy backpacks have been dropped of along the road somewhere.

I'm planning about 12 battalions of French with attached artillery and cavalry. Six have been done. The Prussians will be about the same size.

18mm SYW: Prussian CR12 Baron von Kyau Cuirassiers

This regiment of Cuirassiers, with 5 squadrons, forms the second regiment of my left wing cavalry brigade under von Pasadowsky.

28mm Napoleonic French: 9th Hussars

Two squadrons of this regiment.

28mm Napoleonic French: Vistula Lancers

I've had these sitting around for a couple of years so it was high time I finished the regiment. These are Warlord Games figures and I'm not the greatest fan of their horses but nonetheless I'm happy to add this unit to my Napoleonic French army.

18mm SYW: Prussian DR8 Langermann Dragoons

Sometime between the WAS and SYW Prussian dragoons switched their coat colour from white to blue, the date of this change I'm unsure of. Furthermore the shade of blue if often shown as any shade between light blue and medium blue. Kronoskaf has an interesting article by a major contributor Ibrahim90 suggesting a much darker shade of blue.

I attach a picture (where I got it I'm not sure) of an actual Dragoon coat, either SYW era or even Napoleonic, that shows the colour I am aiming for, bearing in mind that certain liberties need to be taken the smaller the figures being painted.

Here is the whole regiment, five squadrons strong, 35 figures.

18mm SYW/WAS: 2 squadrons of FreiKorps Kleist Hussars

This started off with just a single squadron but this was raised to 5 by 1761. They had a very distinctive uniform of orangey-red with grass-green pelisse. I will field 6 figure squadrons of hussars in the Prussian army (roughly 100 men) and 8 figure squadrons in the Austrian army, the latter being noticeably stronger on paper.

18mm Old Glory: SYW/WAS Prussians: IR18.2 Markgraf Karl

The second battalion of this regiment and my C-in-C base, which is based on Fred but will more probably be his younger brother Prince Henry. That's now 10/16 of the infantry finished so time for some cavalry.

18mm Old Glory: SYW/WAS Prussians: IR18.1 Markgraf Karl

One of my favourite Prussian regiments, because of the flags, and I have lost track of the number of times I have painted this in 15mm and 28mm. The cross on the flag is the Maltese cross of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem as the Markgraf was their grandmaster. Beautiful flags by Dave Morfitt, of course.
